Medieval Fantasies Company is honoured to present the

Slayers of the Undead ~ Interfectores Immortui

An exciting interactive Family Friendly Performance/Activity for your Event, Party or Festival.
Appropriate for ages 5 and older.

The Black Death or Plague was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, peaking in Europe between 1348 and 1350.

The Truth is that the Plague was the original Zombie Apocalypse, a virulent pestilence spread not by the bites of vermin but by the bites of its very victims. Spreading across The Orient, Middle East and Europe, the disease went unchecked until finally an Order of Knights composed of members of the Templars, Hospitallers, Teutonic Knights and other Orders came together to face this  nightmare. Thus the Slayers of the Undead came to be known. These brave Knights faced certain death to eradicate the doom which had befallen all mankind.

Remnants of this Order still secretly serve unto this very day, ever ready to quell the outbreaks that still occur. Honouring their proud Traditions and the brave Knights who served before them, they gather together, training with their ancient weapons. They have one foot in the past and the other in the present, but their mission is unchanged….to exterminate the Immortui.

Sword and Shield

Sword – The one handed sword in a cut and thrust style is  extremely effective against the undead. As mentioned before, your shield is your primary defense after distance, and only an arming sword can be effectively wielded in conjunction with a shield. A Longsword used in the styles of Talhoffer and other learned Swordmasters are equally devastating to our foe.

Shield – Your shield is your foremost protection from the undead. It will guard you from the direct blows and strikes as well as safeguard you from attack from the rear when worn upon the back. Not only for defense, the shield acts as a bludgeoning weapon, able to render devastation upon your foe. The preferred shields of the Order are the Kite, Round and Heater shields. Offering protection from neck to knee as well as being most suitable for strikes and blows from the shield. Bucklers and Targets should be avoided as the protection they offer is lacking against the undead. To withstand the rigors of combat against the slashing claws and terrible bites of the undead, your shield should be of heavy wood or steel.

Archery

The longbow, recurve bow and crossbow each have their place and use against  the undead. With vigilant practice an archer can become skilled at dispatching them from great distances and with speed. Each type of bow offers its advantages and disadvantages. The longbow and recurve offer a high shooting rate at great power, but requires much practice to become skilled. While the crossbow is easier to learn and master, the number of bolts loosed are far fewer than other bows in the same amount of time. Arrows and bolts should be tipped with heads of sharp steel and without barbs such as the bodkin, willow leaf and Saxon heads. Cage heads are also quite useful when the opportunity arises to dispatch the undead by drenching them in oil and shooting Fire Arrows in their midst.

Pole Axes - The bearded axe or Skeggox  (from Old Norse Skegg, beard + Ox, axe) was a popular style as early as the 6th century AD. It is most commonly associated with Viking era Scandinavians.  This weapon, named because the lower part of the head is flat instead of pointed, was a particularly devastating style due to fact that the broad, thin edge was backed by a thick body for resiliency. The cutting edge of the bearded axe extends below the width of the throat, providing a wide cutting surface while keeping the overall weight of the axe low. Such a weapon can strike hard against the undead and lay them low with its sheer force. Such weapons are often two-handed for control and power.

Historical accounts depict the Dane Axe as the weapon of the warrior elite in this period. Although the name retains its Scandinavian heritage, the Dane Axe became widely used throughout Europe from 12th.-13th century, as axes gained acceptance as a knightly weapon.

Children's Leather and Wood Spear

Your spear should of heavy make with a cross piece of steel or antler on the shaft below the blade. This acts as a barrier to prevent the undead from working its way up the shaft of the spear to reach you. Ordinary spears, polearms and poleaxes are preferred over weapons with less reach, the boar spear is far superior to all other polearms. The most effective use of the spear is to pierce the undead in the chest or back and fix it in place while a comrade armed with sword and shield, dispatches the creature.

Spears were oft 3 to 7 feet in length while Lances reached up to 12 feet or more. Approximately 44" shaft with 9.5"x3" spear head and .5" thick. Spear head is made of hardened leather dyed black for durability.
